15 months!
Dear Lucy,
You're 15 months old today! Also, you have the sweetest face ever. :)
You're becoming such a big little girl all of a sudden- it's crazy! On one hand I'm sad to be missing my "baby," but on the other hand I'm so excited to watch you become more and more of your own person.
You're walking all over the place like a real pro these days. Well truthfully, you're still a little wobbly and you still fall down a lot, but you don't let it stop you. Rarely do you cry when you fall (yay for padded diapers!)- you just stand right back up and keep on going!
You're still taking up a storm, although most of it is still incomprehensible to us. But you do like to talk...a lot! You jabber on practically all day long in your cute voice. We love listening to you tell us- well, whatever it is you clearly seem to want us to know. I'm sorry if we don't respond in the right way all the time, but we're trying. As for "real" words, you know how to say: Dad, dog, this, that, hi, bye, burp, and you're working on many others (book, bowl, and toast come immediately to mind). You also sign "more" frequently, although you use it more like a universal "please," signing whenever you want something, not just more of something. It's pretty darn cute.
Although you don't speak many words yet, we're finding out that you definitely know many, many words and understand what things are, even in different contexts. For example, while reading a book or singing a song that mentions an object, you will point to an example of that object in the house or outside. When we ask you to point to a certain object in your picture/word book, you can do it! And when we ask you to do certain things, like bring us something, or "take a sip" or "drink your milk" you will do it. It's so much fun to watch you learn and pick up more and more!
You've been getting to play with other little ones more as of late, which has been fun for both of us. Besides our regular playdates and outings with your buddy Bregan, we also started going to a class at Gymboree once a week- both are really fun. The class each week focuses on a different skill or activity, and all classes involve singing songs and playing on different equipment. It's so cute to see you play around (if not quite 'with') other little ones your age!
Along those same lines, we're about to start a weekly Mommy & Me class for the first time tomorrow. It's supposed to be a really good class (we had to go through a lottery process to get in), however it is rather long (2.5 - 3 hours) and happens to fall during your morning nap time, so hopefully you'll do okay without your morning nap one day a week. We'll give it a try and see how it goes!
You're eating more and more "real" food these days, and I have to say I'm having a lot of fun giving you new foods to try. You're still somewhat limited in what you can eat, due to the fact that you're still working with 4 teeth*, but you do a really good job with just those! You love all the fruits and veggies you've tried so far, cheese, tofu, and you like eating bits of our food, too! Oh and your new snack, which you enjoy a lot- toasted whole wheat english muffins with cream cheese.
You enjoy practicing with your own bowl and spoon...and also just with your hands. :) We're definitely in what Dr. Fang referred to as "the messy stage" of eating!
You're drinking milk out of your straw sippy cup so well now, it makes me so proud! Certain cups work on some days and not others, so I still find myself trading off cups, but we're usually able to find something that works. Also, singing to you while you drink seems to work. Go figure.
You love your books! You trade off favorites, so certain ones hold your attention more than others from day to day, but you do enjoy being read to. Now you also like to pick out your books during playtime and sit down on the floor and look through them on your own.
One thing is certain- as you continue to grow up, you're still able to maintain and exhibit the bubbly personality that we've come to know and love. You're almost always smiling, if not laughing, excited about the world around you.
We couldn't be more proud to be your parents. We're so blessed to be able to watch you blossom on a daily basis. We love you, sweet girl!
* Late-breaking news: There is evidence of two new tooth nubbins (finally)! Woo-hoo!

i wish i could be visiting you along with gramma and grampa. grampa is super excited to go with you to gymboree and see you in action with other little people, and i cant wait to see the pictures.
