Postcard from the zoo

Special days is what we call it when she gets to spend the whole day doing something fun with just one of us. (Um, not counting most days, I guess. Heh.) While Brian was at Coachella this past weekend, Lucy and I got to have a couple of special days together. I previously shared our trip to Tanaka Farms on Saturday and then we went to visit the Los Angeles Zoo on Sunday. Fun!

We saw a few animals, like the koalas (Lisa's favorite) and the zebras, since that's what Lucy wanted to see.

But most of the time was spent walking around, and eating. Ain't nuthin' wrong with that! No one complained, least of all me, since Reid made onolicious spam musubis (and even brought poke for the grown ups)! The spam musubis may have been the highlight of the day for me. The girls enjoyed them, too! (Lucy ate almost entire one by herself!)

They also enjoyed the kettle corn and shave ice. :)

Another, new-to-us fun part of the zoo we had never been inside before was the Children's Discovery Room. This may have been my favorite part of the zoo by default, since it was air conditioned. ;) It was also a very cool place for the kids to explore, learn about, and *be* California Condors.

But the best part of the day, honestly, was just being with family. Lucy absolutely loves her Aunty Lisa and Uncle Reid.

And the level of cousin love is off the charts these days, and yesterday was no exception! It melts my heart to watch the relationship and mutual admiration society between the cousins. K&A really look after Lucy and love to show and teach her things, and Lucy really looks up to them. Lucy preferred to walk a lot of the time, so that she could be like her cousins, and they always held hands. Sometimes, all three of them. It was the cutest ever.

I am not a big fan of the heat (which was considered "cool" to our family members, and very cool compared to Coachella), but even in spite of the heat, I had the best time. So much fun, in fact, that when the cousins asked if we could go over to their house after the zoo, I couldn't refuse. We ended the day at their house, had dinner, and the cousins all got to take a bath together. So cute! All three cousins tried to campaign for a sleepover, but we'll save that for another time. :) All in all, our weekend for two was tiring with all the fun activities I made sure to plan, but it was a great weekend of special days with my girl. :)
