Happy Easter!

We spent some time at Gramma & Grampa C's house today.  We participated in the traditional family egg fight (Grampa won!), some of us (ahem) ate copious amounts of jellybeans, and Lucy played with a super fun toy and even went on an Easter egg hunt.

We left around five or ten minutes before the 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit!  We were driving on the freeway and didn't feel a thing.  A fact, by the way, that I'm not complaining about at all- it was a biggie!  (Note to self: we *really* need to get that earthquake kit together!)

This next tidbit is totally unrelated to today's events, but related to my last post.  I went to look p something else in my Nursing Mother's Companion and came across this little tidbit:

"Many parents and physicians worry when weight gain in a healthy breastfed baby drastically slows in  the secomd six months after birth.  Keep in mind that most U.S. babies are totally weaned to formula and solids by six months of age, and that formula-fed babies tend to gain more weight between six and twelve months than breastfed babies.  the charts used in most doctors' offices reflect this growth pattern.  Normal weight gain for a breastfed baby is between six and twelve months is 1 to 4 ounces per week."

Aaand, I feel much better now.

Oh, except that now I'm starting to worry once again about my milk supply.  Since adding in the third meal this week, Lucy has been drinking less and I fear this is affecting my milk supply.  I realize this is a natural process, but I'm not ready for this particular well to dry up (literally) quite yet.  She still needs milk, and she still doesn't drink from a bottle or enough from a sippy cup yet.  I'm hoping this is just a phase, and that we will settle into an eating and drinking pattern soon.  Let's just leave it at that, because I really can't think about the alternative right now.

But, at least she's eating baby food again!  She went through an unsettling phase for a few days this week during which she had little interest in eating, least of all anything pureed, and from a spoon.  Feedings became marathon torture sessions, which yielded mediocre results.  Both of these issues wouldn't bother me so much, had we not gone to the doctor this past week and learned of the 35-40th percentile thing.  But we did, so now every little thing causes me some grief.  As Jen pointed out, it's just bad timing.  Indeed.  We started to give her more finger foods, which she gladly opened her mouth for and eventually she got back into eating baby food.  Oy!  You never know what you're gonna get at each mealtime.

Anyway, this turned into a longer post than originally intended.  Back to Easter!  Thank you, Gramma & Grampa C for having us over, and thank you, Gramma & Grampa F for the Easter care package!

It was totally our pleasure, Shan. We always have more fun than anybody else. Lucy looks like such a big girl standing next to the activity box. And, the pictures in the high chair are hysterical. She just kept slipping farther and farther down in the seat.
We're glad you got some reassurance from your book! There's just no way that cutie pie isn't completely healthy and thriving!

Looks like you all had a very HAPPY EASTER! Grampa F says little Lucy James looks like she's beginning to show a developing personality/with accompanying "attitude". One which all little girls have, which make them so sweet and sometimes drive you crazy at the same time, i.e. the high chair pictures. Yes Shan, you and sister were just like that at times, and that's why you're all loved so much and the cause at one time of our hair pulling and the graying of Grampa. Beautiful photo of you two girls! We got such a kick from the high chair photos :)
LJ: even though you didnt look too thrilled in your halloween pics, it looks like you warmed up to holiday season.
OMG chair pic #1 totally reminds me like grampa f "trying out" new furniture... he says lounging and slouching is the only way to properly test out a chair you gotta sit in for long periods of time.... ;)
XO
