Baby's got a brand new bed

So, it happened, two nights ago. Big girl bed!

For the record, I have to admit that this would not have happened yet if it weren't for Brian's pushing enthusiasm about making the transition now. After hearing so many stories about kids getting out of bed numerous times throughout the night, waking up at (before) the crack of dawn, and/or not sleeping as well in general, can you blame me? If it ain't broke, don't fix it! But, I did agree that it had to happen sometime, so I gave in.

Although we bought Lucy's crib fully intending for it to convert into a toddler bed. But, we didn't buy the conversion kit at the same time and now the store doesn't sell it anymore. Plus, Alicia had an extra toddler bed, which they offered to give to us, so we took it. It's really cute. :) We can still use the crib bedding, and we got Sara's old quilt, so all we needed to buy for right now is a new big girl pillow.

We threw caution to the wind on Sunday, when Brian built the bed and we switched out her crib. She was really excited. She didn't have a nap because we were at a birthday party, which worked out (we figured it might work out in our favor if she was extra tired). ;) At bedtime, we talked about how the bed was the same as her crib- she was supposed to stay in it. As always, if she needed anything, she could call us. And we reminded her about not getting out of bed in the morning until the light on her clock went on. (A few weeks ago, we started using a toddler clock to let her know when it was okay to wake up in the morning. It's been working really well for the most part.)

She did great! She went down right away and didn't make a single peep. She woke up once about an hour and a half after she went to sleep, but we think it was just a bad dream. She went right back to sleep and never came out of her room. :)

So far it's been two nights and two naps, and she's been great about staying in her room. I've been warned about kids doing this at first, until they realize they can get out of bed. So I've been keeping my fingers crossed (and probably will continue to keep them crossed) each time she goes to sleep, but so far it's been great. We haven't had a video monitor in her room for a long time, but I think we'll (look for it and) put it back so that we can see what she's doing in there.

We should really look into seeing if we can find the conversion kit, because I'm pretty sure her crib can also turn into a twin bed. Then again, we have zero place to store it, so that might not work. Hmm. Sorry, thinking out loud...
